This has been a fun little side project for me – more of a proof-of-concept than anything, since I haven’t sold it yet. (In truth it’s not really ‘finished’ yet – I’m not yet happy with how the back of the piece is kind of a mess of wires)
I’ve had numerous ideas on how to add light to my pieces, but it’s really difficult to do in a clean manner. And then there’s the concern about wires, battery life, etc. I want to be happy, I want my customers to be happy, so I’m not sure if this will ever pan out. I’ve seen other carvers use some light – but rarely on the scale that I attempted with this piece.
This little wizard’s home is carved out of cottonwood bark, and I’ve included a path for our imaginary friend (pixie? fairy?) to climb (or descend) from his lair – complete with flickering torchlights in the cave. At the top we have a flickering blue light, perhaps our friend is watching TV, or maybe even messing with arcane energies that could unleash untold powers upon the world… it’s fun to think about 😉
